Music Monday : Waiting to Exhale Soundtrack

Can I just say that I am only starting to feel somewhat like myself this afternoon. I am so reminded why I just don't drink much anymore. How did my 18 year old body manage?!

I was thinking that I really love music which evokes something in me and I really love when good shows or movies have great music - enter one of my favourites : Waiting to Exhale.

Firstly, when I watched this movie, I was about 11 years old and din't understand the hype of the storyline BUT I loved the soundtrack from the very first song..

My favourites are :

1. Whitney Houston and Cece Winans "Count on Me" (This is the ULTIMATE friendship song!)

2. Toni Braxton "Let it Flow"

3. Marj J Blige "Not gonna cry"

and

4.Whitney Houston "Why does it hurt so bad"

As a sidenote, I must be honest that as I grew older and had more life experience I understood what the movie is about, that woman loved it. It is highly possible that you can identify with one of the ladies OR you can see a friend or loved one in their characters. It's all so interesting and heartbreaking and heart warming at the same time.

Waiting to Exhale is now one of my all time favorite movies and I am not sure if it is because I LOVE the soundtrack or that it has surprised me how much I can link the characters to people in my own life. Now, I'm no Savannah or Bernie but there are aspects of them that I see in my friends and family and it's sad and wonderful and most importantly honest.

The movie is based on a book and I want to read the book but what if I read it and it taints my version or idea of the movie characters?!

Have you watched this movie? Did you like the songs?? If you've never heard of it, what did you think of the songs I've posted?

Have a good week all and to my South African readers *happy dance* for a short week!

x

Great post! I am especially feeling Mary J Blige's track, none of this ever happened to me but the song just makes me feel like I have lived it. Great acting by Angela Basset and Loretta Devine as always!
