The Struggle : Beer Goggles

Ladies and gentleman I have been thinking of adding in a new feature into my blog "The Struggle" and this week's struggle is simple the beer goggle dilemma.

{NOTE: Before reading on, I must warn you this is probably the most superficial post I've ever written so if you're not in the mood, just skip it.. if you're feeling as judgey as I am right now go ahead and share your stories with me! }

I must be honest that I usually have a really particular taste that being hot. Obviously over the years I've made many mistakes misjudgments and it was only in the last couple of days did I realize what may have motivated those misjudgments... haha.

There's this group of guys I know and I use the term "know" loosely however, the point is I have seen these guys before and I didn't really didn't give them any thought because they didn't fall into the "hot" category. They seemed nice enough but because I know them through a business associate I haven't really ever looked at them. A few weeks ago I was out and about and I bumped into the guys. I had been drinking and we stopped and started talking and in ,my head I was like " Oh, Nats, they actually are kinds cute..."

Fast forward three weeks when I bump into the same guys again, In the daylight, in a sober state of mind and they are not hot. I honestly have no idea how I remembered them in the bar to what they looked like when I saw them again.

AND then it came to me... beer goggles. While I may have not been actually drinking beer the effect is the same and dangerous.

The struggle is real.

Have you got any fun beer goggles stories? Please share in the comments!

Things I Do When I'm Alone {Link Up}

Have I mentioned that I hate introductory paragraphs?  It's possible that's because I have so many thoughts going through my brain that knowing there is extra pressure to entice the reader with the first few lines makes it more stressful as opposed to fun.

Now with that being over I can pretend I wrote an awesome intro and we can move along to today's topic of what I do when I'm alone...

* I love going to the movies alone. I know some people understand it but there are others that think I'm cray cray but seriously movies on my own are my favourite because then I can pick whatever I feel like watching and I can cry or laugh out loud and know no one is going to laugh at me

* I don't wear a bra or pants... I usually spend time in my JT top.

* I don't close the doors. Whether it's doors to the bathroom or bedroom, even if I leave it open a jar, I just don't close them fully. Oh and I don't close the cupboard doors either. I'm sure there's some psychology behind it but I don't know or understand it..

* I binge watch TV  I do this all the time anyway

* I bake, in fact when I'm alone is most creative baking time!

* I talk out loud to myself.

I wish had more interesting things to share with you but I honestly can't think of anything hopefully the ladies linking up with Allie and the girls are more entertaining than I am

Allieology

Also, I'm linking up with Miche again for spreading the love and this week the love definitely goes out to my brother and his new fiance'. It's always been just my brother and I but now he's getting married and I get to have a new sibling which is kind of awesome!

Also one of my really good friends is moving to Germany to live with her hubby (you can read about their wedding here - shameless plug) and I'll be going away before she leaves so I'm really sending her tons of love in their new life together!

Buttons and Birdcages

That's all folks... I should be seeing all of you tomorrow for Confessions...

O is for Old Wives Tales (A to Z Challenge)

I absolutely love old wives tales!! I always feel slightly silly for admitting it but the more I think about it, I think it's just one of my quirks!

Here are some of my favourite or rather most popular old wives tales I know of:

~ If you cry while cutting onions, your mother in law is going to like you. Truth or Lie?

~ If a wasp comes into a house, there's a female who is in the house who is pregnant

~Where you carry your baby during pregnancy will indicate the gender - if high (girl) if low (boy) - what happens if it's twins and one is girl and one is boy?

~

~ If a bird poops on you, it brings good luck, really??

To see some other funny old wives tales, head over to this article that I found.

Have you heard of any other old wives tales? What do you think about them?

D is for Dare (A to Z Challenge)

Dare - Have the courage to do something

"Dare, Truth or Command" .

When researching for this post (yes, I do that from time to time) I realise that this game I was playing in my adolescence was wrong! Apparently there were only two options, Truth or Dare. However, I grew up with an extra one... Command.

So, I'm sure if you're an avid reader of my blog, you are probably within the age gap to understand how this game works. Usually it's three or more people who are given the choice to chose to perform a Dare, answer truthfully or commanded to do something. Dare's used to give three options so you still had freedom to choose but it was still a limited choice.

SIDE NOTE: Even as I type this post, I am giggling to myself, having memory flashes of the many dares I undertook as a teenager and cringing at some of the truths that I told or was exposed too.

Moving on, it got me thinking, as teenagers, we (or rather, I) needed so much probing to do something I probably wanted to do anyway and now as an adult I jump from foot to foot before making a decision. Do you think if I was given three options in life, that I knew I couldn't be rejected from, would I still choose so effortlessly?

Now here's the fun part, tell me one of your best dares or truths you had to do (or dares or truths you came up with) and you can send it to me privately if you'd like, but I think it could be loads of fun! Go on, share a little, I DARE YOU!!!

Have an awesome weekend

Book Review - A Girl Walks Into A Bar - Helena S Paige

Remember my story about almost missing the plane to Durban for the Liverpool game when I picked up this book. I must be honest, I did not know what I was getting into.

This story line is simple, it starts with a girl walking into a bar and her friend stands her up. Her night, has many various options and only by the time I was in the third option, did I realise that the "girl" was me! I was making all the choices and then the rest of the stories took on a new light.

The book is simple but intelligent and more so fun!

Another lucky gem I picked up based on the cover!

The biggest question is... if your girlfriend ditches you and you're already out - what would you do??

13 Of 2013 Series

As this year draws to an end, I thought a fun way of rounding it up would be to use the last thirteen days of this year to round up my memories and have some fun with the end of it.

This has been one heck of a year, and being that today is the Day of Reconciliation I think it's fitting to be honest in order to move forward.

I made a big decision to -  leave my job and while I don't have the next stage planned out precisely, I do know that my current job (for next week) is not the place I was supposed to be in and I really didn't think it was healthy going into another year feeling like I was just surviving my life for the sake of breathing and not living .

Anyway, with that in mind, I will here's what's coming up in the last 13 years of this year! If you'd like to join in, leave your link on the relevant post.

I'm looking forward to this, hope you are too.

To all my fellow South Africans, enjoy the long weekend!

Blame it on Bruno Mars!

When people ask me "Why I am Single?" I now have an answer, simple - it is Bruno Mars' fault!

And no, it's not because I now expect every man to treat me like he sings about it "If I were your man"

But rather the fact that he has another song... all about me! (or so it would seem)...

For your ease... here are the lyrics...
"Natalie"

Oh, I never done this before
Never wanna do this again
Wrong turn on a dusty road
I did it to myself, I can't pretend
Well, I learned just a little too late
Good God, I must've been blind
'Cause she got me for everything, everything, everything, alright

Like my daddy I'm a gambling man
Never been afraid to roll the dice
But when I put my bet on her
Little Miss Snake eyes ruined my life
She better sleep with one eye open
Better make sure to lock her doors
'Cause once I get my hands on her, Imma oh

Natalie ‒ she ran away with all my money
And she did it for fun
Natalie ‒ she's probably out there thinking it's funny
Telling everyone
Well, I'm digging a ditch
For this gold-digging bitch
Watch out ‒ she's quick
Look out for a pretty little thing named
Natalie ‒ if you see her tell her I'm coming
She better run

The good lord better bless your soul
'Cause I done already cursed your name
Don't matter which way you go
Payback's gonna come your way
You'll be begging me, please, please, please
And now I look at you and laugh, laugh, laugh
While you sit there and cry for me, cry for me, cry for me all night

I spend a lifetime in jail (yeah, that's what I'll do)
I'll be smiling in my cell (yeah, thinking bout you)
Can't nobody save you now
So there ain't no use in trying
Once I get my hands on you, Imma oh

Natalie ‒ she ran away with all my money
And she did it for fun
Natalie ‒ she's probably out there thinking it's funny
Telling everyone
Well, I'm digging a ditch
For this gold-digging bitch
Watch out ‒ she's quick
Look out for a pretty little thing named
Natalie ‒ if you see her tell her I'm coming
She better run

I should've known better (I should've known better)
'Cause when we were together ('Cause when we were together)
She never said forever (She never said forever)
I'm a fool that played her game, hey

Natalie ‒ she ran away with all my money
And she did it for fun
Natalie ‒ she's probably out there thinking it's funny
Telling everyone
Well, I'm digging a ditch
For this gold-digging bitch
Watch out ‒ she's quick
Look out for a pretty little thing named
Natalie ‒ if you see her tell her I'm coming
She better run

Now I have a reason to be single, Bruno Mars is ruining my name and all associated with it! I bet you don't have a reason as good as mine????

Trevor Noah ~ It's my culture!

I am so excited that last night I was able to attend the Trevor Noah show.

You see, it is highly unlikely that you haven't heard of Trevor if you're in the States and I know if you're in South Africa you know him - WELL!

For those that don't know Trevor, he is probably the most popular comedian in South Africa and one the funniest people I know.

Here is a clip of him on the David Letterman Show

The show was hilarious, like, laugh until your cheeks ache funny. I am convicned once again that my mother was the loudest laugher in the room and not because she is the loudest person but because she enjoys Trevor more than anyone else.

This show was different to the Daywalker, Crazy Normal and That's Racist! I found that this show had a lot more sexual connatation jokes. Now don't get me wrong I am in no way offended by them I just found it interesting how his jokes are changing. Then again it occured to me that Trevor is (almost) 30 (like my brother - they were buddies in Primary School) so his dynamic will change.

My favourite part of the show is where Trevor spoke about Julius Malema. Now I won't give you any details because I hope you et to watch his show but I found that at times during his Juju jokes I almost couldn't breathe through the laughter...

Here's a little skit of him, hope you enjoy it ....

Now tell me, have you been to the show? Did you like it? Which comedians do you like and WHY?

I am blessed and if you're reading this so are you!

This weekend, I got to take an impromptu trip with my parents to Durban. We drove on Saturday afternoon, arrived on Sunday, went for dinner with my family to celebrate the milestone birthdays within last week.

I decided to give into my spontaneous side, which I thought I left in Ireland (I promise I will post about it soon!) but I went with it and ended up in Durban for a good 27 hours until I would have to hop on a plane and fly back to Joburg. The weather in Durban wasn't that great (like the last time I went) but it was still fun and comforting to be with loved ones.

Dinner was really good on Sunday, in fact the only person missing was my brother who had prior arrangements with his cricket game. Maybe I should add that my dad's side of the family is but big. there were over 20 something of us there.. relaxing, eating and talking. It's amazing how you can just be with your family and find such comfort.

It's actually strange that this week I was with my dad's side of the family but last week Sunday, my mom's side of the family got together to picnic which was also sooooo much fun.

That would be Reason 1 why I am blessed.

Reason 2 : On Sunday morning, I got to have an amazing hot stone massage and it was really reasonably priced! It was my first hot stoned massage and I really enjoyed it, in fact straight after it, I went for a nap before just hanging out with my parents and then off to Sun Coast where I got to spend some quality time with Megan.

Reason 3 : When I arrived in Joburg last night, it was safe enough for me to wait for my brother to pick me up and I stood their secure in this knowledge.

While, Reason 3 seems arbitary, it is the moment I felt this post was necessary. There have been some really HORRIFIC things happening with a child hitting his teacher in Johannesburg last week, bombings in Pakistan and shootings in the Westagte Shopping Mall in Kenya.

There is so much of pain currently in the world and I don't even know if you read the news but these events have been so intense it's been in my face and it's frightening and overwhelmingly sad! All I keep thinking is I am so blessed that despite all the chaos going around I am warm, safe and alive.

And if you are in a position to read this, you are blessed too! Embrace it!!!

Have a great week!

7 Reasons I love being a woman!

Keeping in the spirit of National Woman's Day in SA, here are 7 reasons we I love being one.

1. We are allowed to cry in public.

Ok some ladies take this a bit far.... example

2. We get "harvest" life

3. We can wear make-up with little to no judgment

3. We get to say He's Hot or She's Hot without receiving side looks

4. No colour is off limits

6. Woman can have full conversations without saying more than one or two words

7. Hello! We can multitask

What is your favourite thing about woman or being a women?
