This month is turning out to be extremely exciting (in certain aspects) because a certain person (ME!) gets to watch not one but two teams I absolutely LOVE within days....
I wish I could make this post more "professional" - if there is such a thing for blogs but I simply cannot contain my excitement.
While it is Liverpool Legends which means my Stevie Gerrard won't be in the team I still get to watch Liverpool in my own country and some of the greatest players will be there and I cannot wait. I am also really looking forward to being around people who share my passion for Liverpool. AND my dad bought awesome tickets!!!
A Young John Barnes
Then on Tuesday, I get to watch Spain verse my country and while a lot of people are saying that Bafana Bafana will be whipped, on the two previous occasions in which Bafana played Spain we played really well. Perhaps it's that saying that applies : When you socialise with more intelligent people you will think on their level. Maybe when Bafana plays Spain they realise they are playing the greatest team currently out there and they want to ensure that that they look good doing it?
Either way, as you should know, I LOVE Fernando Torres but turns out he's not coming as he is injured :( I literally had to take a moment to process that when I found out. I love that man and I'm sad he's not coming but as it turns out, there will be some new talent coming along. Also, Gerard Pique, Xavi and Jordi Alba won't be making it which makes me sad BUT Pepe Reina will be coming as will Xabi Alonso and David Villa and how could I forget Cesc Fabregas?
And when I thought I had good tickets for Liverpool Legends vs Kaizer Chiefs.. my dad did better (2 rows better) for the Spain game.
I am so thrilled that I get to visit the Moses Mabida Stadium for a game, which I haven't done before and then I get to go back to the FNB Stadium, to watch the champions of the world!
So.. I will do game reviews next week with loads of photos I'm sure! I'll also be positng on Instagram and Twitter!
What is going on with you that makes you as excited as me? Have you seen any of these teams play? Who will you be supporting?
Have a great weekend and enjoy some good football!!
How do I put into words what being a supporter of this team means to me?
I remember always being aware of LFC because my dad was a supporter and if I had to pick I would LFC but then the night before my first University exam, Introduction to Constitutional Law, and Istanbul happened.
I was hooked. I remember watching the team defend like crazy and then win on penalties. It was magical even all the way from South Africa.
However supporting LFC didn't mean I was in for an easy ride, you are a team which makes supporting you a challenge. In the past, we have been inconsistent, we have been great at playing but bad at scoring... we have been playing badly and then scoring.
We have the most intense football rivalries... it may have just been Man United and Everton, once upon a time but now... after Fernando Torres... Jose Mourinho... Chelsea is most definitely up there with teams we love to hate.
When planning my first trip overseas, I made sure to include time in Liverpool, and the day I spent in the museum and at Anfield, was easily one of my top 5 best days of my life. The aura as I stood in front of the gates was at times, overwhelming and simultaneously comforting.
When Fernando Torres left, I stayed up all night waiting to see if he would betray the fans or not and when it was official... I cried myself to sleep and it broke my heart to hear Stevie's hurt
His betrayal only pushed me further into my love for Steven Gerrard. Our captain fantastic, brings so much joys that he deserves his own public love letter but that will be another day.
On game days, I feel anxious the whole day, I try to wear red and keep positive thoughts... I add LFC to my prayer list because, you are my team but more than that, you are my family!
Our song... is the most beautifully suited song for our relationship.. because I know that no matter what happens, I will never walk alone.
It's unexplainable to describe the bond I have to you but over the years I have come to peace with the fact that those who have experienced, understand it deeper than words could explain.
Last night, Spain beat Taiheti 10-0 in the Confederations Cup 2013. That is embaressing and sad and even though I am a Spain support I found myself hoping the game would just be called off early to spare the team the embaressment.
However that was not to be and one of my favourite men, Fernando Torres, got to score four times.
Onto Fernando Torres, for those of my readers who know me (in person) it is more than likely that you will know that I love this man. So much so that I cried my heart out when he left Liverpool FC.
Please understand (before you judge me) two things
1. When I am passionate about something I give my all
2. It is not only that he left for Chelsea it's the way in which he left that was heart-breaking.
So back to my story, Torres is this cute and very shy Spanish player that was a born and bred Atletico Madrid player, who moved to Liverpool FC and captured the hearts of the city as well as all the fans worldwide.
Some facts about him (by the way these are all facts I know off by heart):
* He has green eyes and blonde hair but he changes his hairstyles a lot
* He is superstitous so when he beleives he is having a bad luck streak he will change his hair
* He has scored in the following finals: Euros, Champions League, Europa league and World Cup
* He has a lot of medals
* He adores playing with Steven Gerrard (do I blame him? NO :) )
* He married his childhoos sweetheart
* He likes kids and kids like him
* He has lots of tattoos
* He has these amazing thighs....
AND I love his neck, I can't explain it but his neck, is so manly.
Here are some pics of him BUT word of warning I will do another post of him in the future because I love him like that.
