7 Things about 50 year old Johnny Depp

I know I usually aim to do Football Friday but after seeing today that Johnny Depp is 50 years old I decided to dedicated the hottie post to him instead!

Here are some of the reasons that I find him irresistible.. do you agree?

1. He manages to pull of the dirty look and he is beautiful AND He is a man who can actually wear eyeliner!!

2. He owns a 45 acre island in the Caribbean
3. He made Captain Jack Sparrow one of the most (if not the most) memorable pirates of all time

4. He plays an instrument

5. His ability to play the creepiest characters and YET still make you love him

6.He turned down the role of Mr Smith - let's face it that movie was only a "hit" because of the adulterous relationship which came out of it

7. He was People's Sexiest Man Alive for two years (2003 and 2009) and I wouldn't be surprised if he won again

On a lighter note - 3 TV Quotes to make you smile

I must admit that even though I was aware that yesterday's post had a serious tone, I didn't realise until I actually received feedback (which I thank you for) how personal the post was.
Of course I knew when writing it that it was more personal than any of my other posts but I think it was also more relateable to all of you..

Either way, I think it's best to lighten the mood with more of my favourite FRIENDS tv quotes..
I promise the next time I do this I'll use quotes from other shows and not only FRIENDS

Letting go Versus Holding on

* Early Warning *  - this one has a more serious tone than usual...

In recent weeks I have been confronted with this notion of what it means to "let go"of a situation, emotion or person and it's kind of crazy that so many of us are walking around with this heaviness in our hearts or on our minds because we associate letting go of situations (or people) as an indication of a failure on our part.

We think, " what could I have done differently?" , "I failed at this" or "I am being selfish". I must admit, I think of this all the time whether I am struggling with letting go of my student life or a relationship or more frequently a friendship.

I think it is sad that so many of us feel like we need to stay in situations purely because we don't want to be perceived as mean that we end up holding onto relationships or things which are , for lack of a better word, rotting.

It is slightly crazy and similataneously sad that we feel that we have to validate someone (or ourselves) by continuing to be a part of a situation which we clearly do not want to be a part of. Perhaps I'm wrong and it's not that we don't want to be a part of their lives but rather, we no longer need to be a part of their lives.

Although I truly believe this...

I think we battle to establish when a season has in fact ended.

I have been doing a lot of thinking about this topic and surprisngly, I have been having a number of conversations with different people about "letting go" and while I don't think I have all the answers (far from it) I can safely identify that I am a hoarder. Rather I have emotional hoarding tendancies.

When I was younger I used to hoard everything - no dirt though because my mom wouldn't allow me too. I still have letters from when I was in Grade 6 and 7 or class notes which we passed around throughout High School and while they are great to look back at, what am I holding onto them for?
So now, I realise that I may just have emotional hoarding tendancies.... eek! BUT then it got me thinking, how many of us are emotional hoarders?

Is it that we are holding on to that person or thing for the memory we associate with it and are we afraid that if we let go of that person or thing that we are then letting go of the memory(ies) associated with that person? I'm honestly not sure..

Then I had an epiphany - it's not that I only need to let go of people or things but I have to be able to let go of the person I thought I would be and the things I had wanted to accomplish by now which I haven't and just make peace with the fact that if it was meant to happen for me, the way I wanted it to happen it would have but it clearly was not in God's plan and I need to live in His time and not my own.

This may be something you have heard before but when I actually committed to it made peace (along with a bottle of wine) with it and the person I am and the people who surround me I realised that there have been so many people that I have tried to hold onto but they have still left. Perhaps the only thing I should be holding onto is what's left of my sanity?

If you're looking for a sign to let go of whatever is holding you back, here it is....

I think the most important thing to learn is that letting go is hard and the feelings of letting go are difficult so don't judge yourself for snapping your fingers and still feeling..

Neighbourgoods Market

Yesterday Candice,Lyle and I finally made it to the Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein, Johannesburg and let me warn you now - you will eat A LOT of good food! This is not the place to go to when you're on a diet and the shop owners are not afraid to remind you of that too... See pics below

We arrived around 11 o'clock and it was already packed and as soon as you walk up the ramp you feel as if you have just walked into another city. The market is bustling with loads of food options from Spanish Paella to burgers to pastries and loads of drink options.

We decided we wanted to try a few different foods so we purchased a whole lot of different things... First we tried the paella which is made in these  huge woks, right in front of you. Just looking at the food makes you salivate. We then tried a steak roll and smoothies...

We went upstairs to where the Designers display their clothes or jewellery which is very similar to the Old Biscuit Mill's (in Cape Town) ambience.

Back to our food, we then decided to try desserts. Candice started with a cleanse of freshly cut coconut and I had to take a pic with it, I mean, of course drinking from a fresh coconut on the streets of Jozi is truly an experience which needed to be captured on camera :)

And Can and Lyle took a cheesey and romantic picture with the coconut :)

Then we found these really cool brownies and cinnamon buns which we decided we would eat at home so I could have freshly made belgian waffles with fresh strawberries and ice cream and if that wasn't enough we shared a "Top Deck" Crepe which has nutella and condense milk, it was devilishly tasting!

After all the lines and food options we decided that we should leave because people who were seated were not getting up and we could only stand and eat for so long.

I will definitely be going back to Neighbourgoods but I will go earlier and reserve seats by making at least one of my group keep seats while we take chances to go pick foods. I have to try the burger which had at least 40 people queing for at a time! Also I would go with more money, you are paying for gourmet food and your pocket will feel it if you are unprepared and most importantly go with cash!

Have you been before? What did you think?

Here are some pictures from my experience...
